Jean N. Jones

Jean Naomi Jones, 70, of Stafford, VA was surrounded by her loving family as she passed away peacefully October 18, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She was born in King George, VA on February 5, 1946.

Jean accepted and served Christ early in her life and remained a devoted Christian. She was an active member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church for over 27 years with a host of ministries, which included singing in the choir and displaying that wonderful, welcoming smile of hers in the greeter ministry. Jean attended high school at Ralph Bunche in King George, VA. There, she played basketball, was a cheerleader, Homecoming & Prom Queen and graduated in 1964. She held an array of jobs over her lifetime – most notable, she was the secretary at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church for many years and spent some time as a Dental Assistant at the office of Theresa Y. Crawley, D.D.S. Jean was an avid lover of all things – The Lord, her husband, her children, her grandson, being around family & friends, dancing, helping others, afternoon tea, the color purple, puzzles, baking cobblers/pies/scones etc., canning, shopping, fellowshipping with friends, cards (Canasta/Pinochle), music (Motown/Gospel), movies, flowers, perfume, food, Carl's ice cream, Dairy Queen, antiquing, laughing, smiling, hugging, loving and just life itself. Jean was a member of the Red Hat Tea Society and helped to start a local chapter in Stafford. She played an active role in the community, volunteering where she could and held a position on the election board in Stafford County during election season. Jean was a tremendous influence on all she touched and an absolute joy to be around.

Jean married Raymond Jones, of Oak Grove, VA in 1965 and celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary June 12th. Jean was preceded in death by her mother Patricia Brooks; Cedell Brooks, Sr., who helped raise her; and her father James Gray.

Jean is survived by her husband Raymond E. Jones, Sr. of Stafford, VA; son Raymond (Asima) Jones, Jr. of Boston, MA; daughter Nicole (Peter) Plourde of Somerville, MA; grandson Henry Plourde of Somerville, MA; brother Raymond Brooks, Sr. of King George, VA; Cedell (Carolyn) Brooks, Jr. of King George, VA; sister Rita Gray of (Raleigh, NC); numerous nieces and nephews; brother and sister in-laws and other extended family members; close family friends and church family. Jean has certainly left a lasting impression in her lifetime and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
