Jay Orlando Wiggins was born on December 9, 1960 in Cincinnati, Ohio and passed away on October 19, 2021 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He was the proud son of Aileen Celeste Wiggins and Jesse O. Wiggins. He was a member of the United Methodist Church where he attended church services with his parents during his younger years. He was an accomplished pianist and composer and enjoyed entertaining family members at a young age. He was gifted a piano for Christmas around the age of 5 and was a natural at playing the piano. His passion for music grew exponentially over the years and his talent rivaled the likes of jazz musician and pianist Lonnie Liston Smith. His melodic sounds soothed the ears of many throughout the years. Jay also taught piano for many decades and loved sharing his talents with his students in hopes they’d become accomplished pianists as well. Jay recently purchased a new piano and continued to play until the very end.
Jay Wiggins was a stellar student at MIT in Boston, Massachusetts where he studied engineering like his father. Although he left school early his zest for knowledge never wavered. He was a genius of sorts and an avid reader. He collected dozens of books and enjoyed reading and learning about various subjects, especially mathematics. The neighborhood bookstore was among his favorite places to visit before online ordering became popular. He was a lover of books until the end. Jay also loved basketball and enjoyed watching his favorite teams. He also played basketball in high school and loved every minute of being part of the team.
Although his health waned over the years, Jay never gave up on living his best life. He would want his family and friends to know he’s well now. No more pain and no more suffering. He passed away quietly in his sleep on October 19, 2021.
Jay is survived by a host of relatives including Aunts, Cousins, Great Cousins, Great Great Cousins and Great Great Great Cousins including Debra Smith, Brie Smith, Kenneth Barksdale (Karen) Aunt T-Olive Minor, Aunt Olga Morton, Gregory Coley (Stella), Deborah Coley Daniels, Leslie Marcus Coley (Cynthia), Cheryl Coley (Tony), Marjorie Coley, Constance Hall, Gary Morton (Sharrane), Rickey Morton, Marcus Manuel (Tammy), Jason Mickens, Marcus Coley II, Courtney Briggs, Curel Hall, Corien Hall.
