James Woodrow Nelson departed this earthly life on May 19, 2009 at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. He was born on February 15, 1950 in Caroline County, Virginia to Charlotte Nelson Hagood and the late Robert Beale Nelson of Caroline County, Virginia. He received his education in Caroline County and Washington, D.C.
James was united in holy matrimony to Delores Nelson (Bundy) on December 19, 1974 where they had two children Samantha and James Robert.
March 27, 2005, James was baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hustle, Virginia. Jimmy, as he was known to his family and friends was a sensitive man, a loving husband, a caring father, brother, and son. He worked many different jobs in construction, and as a laborer in Washington, Maryland, and Virginia.
Jimmy was a special friend to many and always looked out for others. He had a gift of caring and a wonderful sense of humor. He was always lending a hand, and offering support.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife Delores Nelson; mother Charlotte Hagood; one daughter Samantha Artis, Robert Artis (son-in-law) of Capital Heights, MD; one son James Robert, Jannita Nelson (daughter-in-law) of Burlington, NC; seven grandchildren, Alec (Hard Time), Tesahn (Meatball), Devonne (Half Pint), Sequan (Graunt), TyAja (Princess), Janiyha, and Chelsie (Pumpkin); five sisters, Donnetta Rigney, Becki Sullivan (Paul), Barbara, Sherlean, and Deborah Nelson all of Maryland; two brothers, Wendell (Bertha) of Colonial Beach, VA, and Frankie (Shirley) of Cheverly, MD; mother–in-law Iona Bundy; 3 sister-in-laws, Doris Lee (James), Euith Bundy, Faye Stewart (James); 1 brother-in-law, Leroy Bundy (Mary) all of Tappahannock, VA. Also to join in his endless memories are Thiada Holmes, Tiara Gray, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jimmy will be missed by all who knew him.
For we walk by faith not by sight. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labor, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of Him (2 Corinthians 5:7-9).
