James R Smith

James Roger Smith, affectionately called Smitty or sometimes Jack was born July 24, 1942 in Whiteville, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Taft Smith and Katie Floyd Smith. He died suddenly at his home in Colonial Beach, Virginia on March 3, 2016.

During his life he was a professional licensed Dump Truck driver and trainer for E & C Excavation Trucking Company in Bladensburg, MD. James was well known for his great sense of humor and being a true family man. He adored his family and loved entertaining friends, some of his favorite past times were cooking and grilling ( especially frying fish), watching old classic movies (Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson, Original Kung Fu, and surely stand up comedy).

James leaves to cherish his precious memories of wife (Della Smith), 2 sons James Smith Jr. of Landover, MD and Sean C Smith of Fredericksburg, VA; 1 stepson Keith Ferrell of Arlington, VA; 3 daughters Stephanie A. Carter (Kenneth) of Hewitt, TX, Valerie Brown-Carver (Glenn) of Bowie, MD, and Kimberly R. Harris (Marcus) of Colonial Beach, VA; 1 goddaughter Sylvia Smith of Fredericksburg, VA; 4 sisters, Essie Stone (Tommy) of Cheverly, MD, Carrie Graham of Clarkton, NC, Nellie Robinson (Clarence) of Suitland, MD, Barbara Piggott of Chadbourn, NC; 1 brother Nathaniel Smith of Clarkton, NC; 8 grandchildren, Lafeyette Smith, Jelon Smith, Andrea Burrell, Hasan Gill, Forrester Carver, Amira Bonds, Ethan Harris, Sean Smith Jr.; 1 great grandson; Jaiden Nicols; 13 sisters-in-law, Irene Leak of Suitland, MD, Mildred Peyton, Lillian Smith, Percilla Smith, Inez West of Colonial Beach, VA, Helen Johnson, Shirley Tate of Washington, DC, Lucille Smith, Dorita Bird (Rick) of King George, VA, Phyllis Smith-Johnson ( Wayne) of Tallahassee, FL, Regina Smith, Odessa Jolly, Clara Smith of Fredericksburg, VA; 1 bother-in-law, Henry C Smith ( Lynn) of Fort Washington, MD; A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
