James Ollie Alsop

On Monday, October 4, 2010, James Ollie Alsop entered into eternal rest at his home in Newtown, VA. He was born March 18, 1921 to the late James and Lucy Alsop. Brother Ollie was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances G. Alsop and one son, William Alsop.

As a young lad he joined the First Mount Olive Baptist Church where he enjoyed his membership by supporting and serving as Treasurer, member of the Gospel Choir and Men's Chorus. He also worked diligently in the community by serving on the Upper K and Q Rescue Squad, SRBA Choir and he was a Mason. Brother Ollie was a lifetime farmer who loved his work and who could always be found helping his fellowman whether it was plowing their garden, pushing snow or even pulling a broken car or truck safely home. He will be remembered by everyone throughout the church and community for his dedication to "work", his attitude of "don't worry" and his "laughter".

He leaves to cherish his rich memories, his wife of 29 years, Carolyn Alsop; six children: Christian Alsop (Joan), Robert Alsop (Terry), Wendy Corbin (Eric), Bryan Alsop, Spencer Coleman, and Eric Coleman; one sister: Evelyn Johnson; nine grandchildren: Commander Richard Alsop, Christopher Alsop, Sydney Corbin, Nicholas Corbin, Jamar Coleman, Tyler Coleman, Ashton Coleman, Leah Coleman and Anthony Jackson; eight great-grandchildren: Kennedi Alsop, Reagan Alsop, Tavier LaFontant, Devin Alsop, Talen Alsop, Raina Jackson, Reilly Jackson, and Reagan Jackson 3 sisters-in law LiVina and Hilda Braxton and Barbara Johnson; 3 brothers-in law Clyde Johnson, Alvin and Glenn Clarke and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
