James L. Anderson

James Luther Anderson was born on January 15, 1928 to the late Evelyn and Isaiah Anderson of Washington, DC. He departed this earthly life on September 21, 2013. James was educated in the Washington DC, public schools. He served his country in the US Army from July 1947 through June 1950, stationed in both Korea and Japan. He earned an honorable discharge.

Throughout his employment, James worked in security. After retiring from the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC as a Special Policeman; he worked as a Town Sergeant for the Town of Bowling Green, and as a security guard for the Commonwealth of Virginia in Richmond, VA. James loved to help people and drove for Meals on Wheels throughout Caroline County. He was also a Certified Nursing Assistant at Heritage Hall in King George, VA. His favorite hobby was bowling and he was part of a bowling league for many years. He also enjoyed reading the newspaper everyday.

James joined Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Washington, DC at an early age. Throughout his life, James remained devoted to serving in church. After meeting and marrying Annie Edwards, James moved to Bowling Green, VA. He and Annie, whom he affectionately called "Sweetie", were married for 36 wonderful years. They joined Third Mount Zion Baptist Church in Woodford, VA under Pastor Antonio Baker, Jr. where James served on the Deacon Board for many years. He was recently honored as Deacon Emeritus. He loved to worship and sing praises to his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

James was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Annie E. Anderson of Bowling Green, VA, one son, James "Jimmy" Anderson of Ellicott City, Maryland, four stepchildren, Angela "Gayle" Roberts (Roscoe) of Richmond, VA, Yolanda Hill (Vernon) of Bear, DE, Cathie Wade (Melvin) of Varina, VA and Edgar "EC" Edwards, Jr. (Debbie) of Glen Allen, VA; eight grandchildren, Charles "Wesley" Edwards, Dominique Jennings, Anthony Roberts (April), Brittanie Jennings, Lauren Hill, Justin Roberts, Austin Edwards and Melvin "MJ" Wade, II and two great grandchildren Antonio and Anton Jones. He also leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Marguerite Dudley of Upper Marlboro, MD, two brothers, Isaiah Anderson (Mary) of Mitchellville, MD and John Anderson of Laurel, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his beloved church family.
