James E. Baylor Sr.

Deacon James E. Baylor, Sr., son of the late Herman and Bertie Ware Baylor, was born December 28, 1919 in Port Royal, Va. He departed this life after a long illness at 1:46 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005 at Mary Washington Hospital after a long illness. He attended and was educated at the one room School house in Port Royal. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and joined the Shiloh Baptist Church, Port Royal, Va., where he served as a Trustee, member of the Senior Choir and Male Chorus. He was the eldest Deacon of the church and served faithfully until his health failed. Even after he moved to the Nursing Home, his son Jimmy would go by and pick him up and take him to Shiloh on Sunday mornings. Deacon Baylor had a special love for his Church. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to the former Bernice Hartman, who preceded him in death March 15, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Baylor and sister Marie Washington.

Deacon Baylor was an Army Veteran. After returning from military service, Deacon Baylor operated a Barber Shop from his home before going to work at Dahlgren, where he retired after 32 years of service for the Federal Government in the Transportation Department.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, James E. Baylor, Jr. and step-daughter Lorraine Beverly and her husband Donald; two grandchildren, Stephanee and James ''L.J.'' Baylor and step-granddaughter, Donna Beverly; one brother, Emmitt Baylor and his wife Mary; one sister, Elizabeth Gresham; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
