James "Dick" Washington

James "Dick" Washington

James Richard Washington (Dick) was born to the late Lloyd Washington, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Brown Washington on April 9, 1943 in Caroline County, Virginia. He departed this life on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in Spotsylvania, VA. At an early age Dick accepted Christ as his personal savior at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, VA.
Dick was educated in the Caroline Public School System. He then served 2 years on Active Duty and several years in the National Guard. He was employed at the Washington Gas Light Company for 31 years and 20+ years for Caroline County Public Works. He also was a member of the Port Royal Fire and Rescue Department.
He was a hard worker, loved his family and was a great provider. He loved drag racing, landscaping, gardening, fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and being a member of the Van Club. If you knew him, he was a great jokester.
On November 25, 1966, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Geneva Byrd and to this union, three children were born.
Dick was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Washington, Sr.; mother, Elizabeth Brown Washington; brothers, Walker Washington and Tyrone Jones. He leaves to cherish fond memories, three sons, Kenneth A. Washington (Crystal) of Stafford, VA, Dwayne R. Washington (Angela) of Loretto, VA, and Reverend K. Lionel Richards (Lorraine) of Colonial Beach, VA; two daughters, Angela M. Washington-Jackson (Ralph) of Port Royal, VA and Tammy Snowden (George) of Fredericksburg, VA; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He also leaves four brothers, William Washington (Linda) of North Carolina, Lloyd Washington, Jr., of Rappahannock Academy, VA, Robert Jones (Priscilla) of Texas, and Reginald Robinson (Earsley) of King George, VA; three sisters, Ann Cole (William), Shirley Washington (Theodore), and Doris Jones, all of Rappahannock Academy, VA; two uncles, Richard and Charles (Virginia) Brown, both of Rappahannock Academy, VA; one aunt, Nancy Myers of Rappahannock Academy, VA; special friend Patricia “Ann” Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
