James D. Campbell

Quietly and peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2017 at home, King George, Virginia, the Lord whispered and called our loving husband, father, grandfather, Jimmy, as he was affectionately known, to his eternal resting place.
James David Campbell was born to the late King David and Bernice Edith Campbell on June 4, 1942. He was raised in King George County, Virginia and received his education through the King George County public school system. He was baptized at the Antioch Baptist Church later in life.
He was married to Doris Marie Campbell on December 7, 1968. To this union, two children were born; James Anthony, and Sonia Denise Campbell.
He successfully completed four years of military service in the United States Army. After the military, he worked at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Dahlgren, Va. in general services. After 22 years of loyal service, the year 1994 marked a whole new chapter in Jimmy’s life: Retirement.
Jimmy was an avid sports and car lover. He spent his leisure time watching sports on tv, attending numerous local softball games, and in his earlier days, he frequently played pool at Grimes Inn. He found much joy in working on cars, keeping them meticulously clean, and most of all, racing and competing with his pride and joy the “Blue Road Runner.”
He leaves to cherish fond memories his wife of 49 years, Doris M. Campbell; two children, James Anthony and Sonia Denise Campbell; a very special grandson, whom he adored and cherished, Augustus O. Holmes, Jr.; five sisters, Alberta Baylor of King George, VA, Josephine Campbell of Gainesville, VA, Ethel Scott (James) of King George, VA, Laura Harvey (Robert) of King George, VA; one brother, Tony Brooks of King George, VA; one uncle, Thurman Brooks (Marcia) of Fredericksburg, Va., one aunt, Joyce Harrison (Alfred) of King George, Va. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
