James Allen Garnett was born on August 12, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York to Mary and the late Hillie Garnett. He departed this life suddenly on Monday, March 16, 2009 at his home in Baltimore, Maryland.
Allen, as he was called by his family and friends, attended public schools in Caroline County. At a very early age, he accepted Christ and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church Supply, Virginia.
Allen was employed as a professional printer and handyman with G-Net Construction Company owned by his brother, Rickey. He was also a certified brick layer and carpenter.
Allen was an avid sports fan and enjoyed basketball and football. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing. Although Allen spent most of his time away, he always enjoyed coming back home and being with his family. He was a quiet and kindhearted person and very forgiving. If there was anything you needed and he had, he would not hesitate to give it to you. If you knew him or spent time with him, one of the things you would notice right away is his smile. He had a smile that would brighten and radiate any room. Matter of fact, his friend and neighbors in Baltimore called him Smiley because he always had a bright smile on his face. Allen was a free spirit who never worried about anything, he believed in being happy and making people around him happy.
Allen leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Mary Garnett, 4 brothers, Earl and Rickey both of Baltimore, MD, David of Fredericksburg, VA, and Marshall of King George, VA; 4 sisters Bernice Contee(Ralph)Clinton, MD, Mary "Pookie" Johnson of Partlow, VA; Anita Garnett of King George, VA and Betty Edwards (Stewart) of Richmond, VA; two uncles James Thomas Johnson and Purcell Garnett, 3 aunts Lena Edwards, Esther Holmes and Elizabeth Green, nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
