Ivery Woods Young, daughter of the late Clifton and Nannie Sue Woods, was born on December 4, 1928 in Bassett, Va. She departed this life on, Monday, May 23, 2011 at Bon Secour Memorial Regional Hospital.

Ivery received her formal education from Henry County Public Schools. After graduation she moved to Brooklyn, New York, where she later became a police officer for the 90th Precinct. After retiring from the police force, Ivery went to work for Downstate University Hospital in Brooklyn, New York as a security guard. In July of 1979 Ivery and he husband, William decided to move to Bowling Green, Virginia, where he was born and raised.

Everyone who knew Ivery knew that she was a true child of God. She truly knew and loved the Lord, always praising Him and glorifying His name. Ivery joined Jerusalem Baptist Church shortly after moving to Bowling Green, Virginia. She was very active in the Ways and Means Ministries, the Usher Board, and the Hospitality Committee, where she served faithfully until her health began to fail.

Ivery was a kind and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, niece and friend. She had a warm heart and always greeted you with a smile. Ivery was an excellent seamstress to all who knew her. She also enjoyed being outside planting flowers and watching them grow.

Ivery was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Young, three brothers; Joseph, Earley and Kermit Woods, and one sister Lucille Calloway.
