Irving Fitzhugh Johnson

Irving Fitzhugh Johnson was born on May 28, 1941 to the late Theodore Roosevelt Johnson Sr. and Florence Pratt Johnson. He departed his life January 28, 2017 at his home surrounded with family and friends.
At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized and joined the Little Ark Baptist Church. Irving graduated from Ralph Bunch in 1959. He went on to join the Navy. He was honorably discharged in November 1965. From there he went on to work for the Federal Government until he retired from David Taylor Research center in January 1994.
In October 1978 he met his late wife Gloria Jean Johnson and they were married on November 16, 1985.
Irving was a kind hearted person who love his family. He would do anything for anyone. He always spoke his mind and didn't take "mess" from anybody. Irving enjoyed going to the Dahlgren McDonalds every morning to spend time with the "fellas." Irving spent his free time working on his antique Mercedes. He spent most of his days traveling around town and eating out until his eye sight began to fail.
Irving was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Jean Johnson and son Andrew F. Johnson. Five brothers: Theophilus "Bernard" Johnson, Herbert Johnson, Lawrence Odell Parr, Temple Leon Johnson, and James Purcell Johnson. One sister: Naomi Johnson Grymes
He leaves to cherish his memory forever eight sons: Gilbert Wayne Johnson (Bonita), Gary O. Johnson (Drew), Ivan L. Johnson (Phyllis), Kirk O. Johnson (Carolyn), Keith O. Johnson (Gwendolyn), Keith T. Smith, Eric Smith (Melissa), and Mark Smith; four daughters: LaShon E. Wise (Clarence), Krystal K. Johnson, Delores S. Johnson (Keith), and Cynthia Smith; forty-two grandchildren and Thirty-two great-great grandchildren; one brother Theodore R, Johnson Jr. (Margaret) and one Sister Shirley E. Bumbrey; two brother in law: Vernon R. Tubman Sr. (Betty) and Reece J. Carson Jr. (Jeannie); four sister in law: Joyce A. Jennings, Janice Alexander Daye, Verna Lee Alexander, and Angela Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
