God watched you as you suffered,
And knew you'd had your share.
He tenderly closed your weary eyes,
And took you in His care.
Ida Belle Young, the youngest daughter of the late Albert and Mary Holmes, was born on October 8, 1928; and at an early hour on Friday, March 4, 2005, departed this life from Carriage Hill Nursing Home in Fredericksburg, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Ida Belle joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at an early age. Until her health failed, she remained a faithful servant. She was a dedicated member, having served as Sunday school teacher, usher, secretary of the Missionary Society, and church sexton. She received her formal education in the public schools of Essex County and maintained her contact with the school system by being employed as a school bus driver; and when certification was not an issue, she taught first, second, and third grades at the old Supply School.
During her marriage to Theodore Young, they were blessed with one daughter whom she loved unconditionally. She leaves to cherish fond memories her daughter, Juliette; one sister, Elizabeth Golden of Port Royal, VA; one brother and sister in-law, Ralph Holmes, Sr. (Rose) of Tappahannock, VA; one aunt in-law, Frances Holmes of Supply, VA; two other sister in-laws, Lottie Holmes and Louise Holmes of Fredericksburg, VA; eight nieces; Yvonne Harper (Bernard), Jacquelyn Gaines, Gail Wallace, Donna Holmes, Jean Banks (Robert), Doris Pollard (Charles), Virginia Slappey, Elsie Byrd (Al); four nephews, Ralph Holmes, Jr., James Fortune (Dianthia), Calvin Holmes, Willie Holmes (Della); a host of great-great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and two special childhood friends, Carolyn Johnson and Pearl Holmes.
Jesus, while our hearts are bleeding,
O'er the spoils that death has won,
We would at this solemn meeting,
Calmly this day, ''Thine Will be Done''.
