Herbert L. Holmes

Herbert Lewis Holmes, Jr's Journey ended January 31, 2015 at the Ashland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ashland, Virginia. Herbert Lewis Holmes, Jr. was one of nine children born on May 18, 1936 to the late Herbert A. and Estella G. Holmes of Hustle, Virginia.

Herbert gave his life to Christ at an early age. He was baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hustle, Virginia. Herbert completed his education in Essex County Public School System, He joined the Army upon completing his service to his country he went on to work doing underground construction until his retirement in 1999 from Berts Underground construction.

Herbert, who was affectionately known as "Nick" to those who knew him well. He was proceeded in death by his father Herbert A. Holmes, by his mother Estella G. Holmes, two Sisters Gladys L. Berry and Mary B. Holmes, one son Mark L. Holmes and one daughter Theresa Holmes. He leaves to cherish his memories, his children Brenda Jackson (Quincy), Barbara Todd (Kirk), Louise Robinson (Sugar Ray), Lorraine Holmes, Lucy Holmes, Syreeta Perkins (John), James Holmes, Ellen "Bernice" Minor (James), 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Four brothers Charles Holmes (Vernell) of Fredericksburg, VA, Nathan Holmes (Carmen) of Maryland, Norman Holmes of Hustle, VA and Andrew Holmes (Jean) of Hustle, VA. Two sisters Antoinette Holmes- Pompey of Hustle, VA and Susie Lewis of Fredericksburg, VA. Two uncles Leslie Holmes of Hustle, VA and William "Willie" Green of Champlain, VA. Two aunts Mary Gray of Champlain, VA, Virginia Miller of Maryland, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
