Guadalupe Palacios Chen

Guadalupe Palacios Chen, born in Gutzeo, Michoacán, Mexico, on December 12, 1925, to late Encarnacion Calvo Simon and Jose Palacios Arellano.

Guadalupe grew up poor, leaving school leave school after the second grade to work and help support her family which included her mother and siblings, in Mexico.

On July 2, 1952, Guadalupe gave birth to her daughter (Luz Maria) and shortly after immigrated to America to work for a family as their housekeeper and nanny.

She met her husband King Pao Chen (an immigrant from China) in Washington, D.C. and despite their limited English, they dated and were married from 1955 until 2002, when he died. They had one son, Ricardo who was born to this union.

Even though Guadalupe had very limited education, she realized the importance of a good education an worked long hours as a housekeeper for various families so she could afford to send her children to the best schools. Lucy attended Holy Cross High School and Ricardo attended Linton Hall Military School and Gonzaga High School.

She was also responsible for bringing her brothers and sisters to the United Stated while continuing to provide financial support to her family in Mexico.

Guadalupe lived in Virginia for more that forty years. For the last year, she resided with her son Ricardo and his wife (Deloris) in King George, VA.

Guadalupe leaves to cherish, one daughter, Luz (Lucy) Maria Palacios Bhanji, and one son, Ricardo Jose Chen; one daughter-in-law Deloris Chen; three sisters, Virginia of Mexico, Trinidad of McLean, VA., Josefina (Jose) of Massachusetts; three brothers, Carlos (Lucia) of Shirlington, Abel of New York, Abunbio and Juan who preceded her in death; five grandchildren, Almira, Jamil, Carlos, Ricardo II, and Nicholas; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
