May 14, 1947 — December 23, 2008

Gloria J. Johnson

Gloria Jean Tubman-Johnson, was born May 4, 1947 in Westmoreland, Virginia. The fourth of nine siblings to the late Henry William and Delores Gloria Tubman. God suddenly called her home on December 23, 2008 in Dahlgren, Virginia.

At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized under the leadership of her late uncle, Rev. Everette W. Stevenson, Sr.

She was educated in the Washington D.C. Public School System.

She helped nurture her younger siblings, being an at home mom, until they all went through school. She later went to work at the David Taylor Naval Ship Research and Development Center in Carderock, MD.

In October 1978, she met her soul mate of 30 years, Irving Fitzhugh Johnson. They became one on November 16, 1985.

Gloria's warm smile and gentle touch (or tickle) made all in her presence feel welcome. She could be found most days at home playing computer games and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul W. Tubman, sister, Karen A. Tubman-Gordon and two sons, Andre' and Andrew.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Irving F. Johnson; eight sons, Keith Smith, Eric Smith, Mark Smith, Wayne Johnson, Gary Johnson, Ivan Johnson, Keith Johnson and Kirk Johnson; four daughters, Cynthia M. Smith , Delores Johnson, LaShon Wise and Krystal Johnson; 27 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon R. Tubman, Sr.(Betty) and Reese J. Carson, Jr.(Jeannie); four sisters, Joyce A. Jennings, Janice Alexander-Daye, Verna Lee Alexander and Angela Alexander; one uncle, Earlston Ford; two aunts, Gladys Majette and Shirley Fields; and a host of other relatives and friends.
