Gloria Richards Baker was born on March 26, 1954, to John and Gladys Richards at the home place in Robbs Hill, Westmoreland County, Virginia.
Gloria received her education in Westmoreland County Public Schools. Deciding to further her education, she earned an Associates Degree in Liberal Arts at Northern Virginia Community College in 2007.
Gloria was employed by Wells Fargo and Pacific Bell in California and the Westmoreland County Public School System for many years. She also worked for Manassas City Public Schools until her health declined. It was at Osbourn High School where she discovered her love for working with Special Needs Children. It was evident that they loved her, and she loved them even more as she spent countless hours telling you about her students and accompanying them on field trips. She retired in 2012 after working there for sixteen years.
Gloria accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She united with Little Zion Baptist Church and was baptized in the river at George Washington Birthplace by Pastor Winston DeVaughn.
Gloria was joined in holy matrimony to Otis Baker on December 12, 1998. During her time off from school she enjoyed accompanying him on cross-country trips in his tractor-trailer.
In her down time you could find Gloria fishing; in fact, she taught her husband how to fish. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed plants/gardening as well as her "sanctuary" where she read her bible. She also enjoyed hand dancing and was pretty good at it. She had only one criteria, her partner had to know how to hand dance good. Most recently, she discovered a love for make-up after watching her great niece Kiara Joyner's YouTube channel.
Gloria was predeceased by her loving parents John & Gladys Richards, grandson Chance Richards, brother Robert Sorrell, sisters Louise Byrd and Lucy Franklin, and mother-in-law Rosalie Baker.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband Otis Baker of Fredericksburg, three children twin sons Da Monn and De Monn Richards of Fredericksburg and one daughter Jenaya Foster (Michael) of Falls Church; five grandsons Amahri Richards of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ely'Jah Richards of Salisbury, Maryland, Marcellus Richards of Manassas, Virginia, Camaran Richards of Denton, Texas, and Michael Foster, Jr. of Falls Church, Virginia; five sisters Hazel Baylor (Allen), Josephine Burnett of King George, Patricia Kellibrew of Bowie, Maryland, Theresa Frye (William) of Waldorf, Maryland, and Cozetta Pryor of Fredericksburg; five brothers John Richards, Jr. (Helen), Roy Richards (Kathy) of Colonial Beach, Spencer Richards (Lisa) of Temple Hills, Maryland, Michael Richards of Fredericksburg, and Cecil Richards (Amy) of Colonial Beach; 2 brother-in-laws: Sheldon Baker (Crystal) and Warren Craddock (Sylvia); one aunt: Alberta Byrd; special friends Annette Banks, Cynthia Beasley, Christie Madison, and Sharon Outlaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
