Geraldine M. Cole

Geraldine Marie Cole was born on July 12, 1955, to parents James Dudley and Mary Agnes Elizabeth (Dorsey) Cole. She was educated in the Charles County, Maryland Public School System, where she graduated from LaPlata High School, LaPlata Maryland.

After graduating from High School, she was employed by Charles County Board of Education where she worked in the printing department for approximately 10 years. She took a brief hiatus to raise her twins, daughters Cherika and Cheneka. She was then employed by the United States Postal Service where she worked for 23 years until her retirement in October of 2020.

Geraldine was a very gifted artist. In her younger years she expressed that gift through her pencil sketches, embroidery, painting and sewing. One of her favorite things to sketch was television characters (actors). One sketch she cherished was her depiction of Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford, from the comedy series Sanford and Son. She also displayed her artistry through fashion. She would draw designs on her jeans and t-shirts and then embroider her designs to upscale the looks. She also showed her love for fashion by making paper dolls for her younger sisters, designing the outfits she envisioned in her mind for the dolls to wear. Her art was of such quality that the FBI was interested in her becoming a Forensic Sketch Artist, but she was not interested in pursuing that path.

Geraldine was a strong disciplinarian she did not accept her daughters misbehaving especially in school. Her daughters would tell of the time when one of them got into trouble and Geraldine was called to the school. In order to teach them a lesson Geraldine placed flour on her face and rollers in her hair and showed up in their school wearing a robe and bedroom slippers.

Geraldine was determined and had a strong will. You never had to wonder what she was thinking about because she didn’t hesitate to tell you. That strong will served her well during the latter months of her illness. In April of 2023 Geraldine was in the hospital and her family received a call to come to the hospital because she was not expected to survive the night, not only did she survive that night, but God restored her strength and she lived for 3 months more. She was able to come home and enjoy her family and friends. She had game nights with the family, she enjoyed outings, such as going to the beach and restaurants. Thanks to the love and dedication of her children, grandchildren, and good friend and cousin Christina Smith she was able to LIVE out her final days surrounded by love.

Geraldine knew that no matter what ever achievements a person may accomplished in life, it would be meaningless if you do not have a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was baptized at Salem Baptist Church, in King George, VA. She also served on the Usher Board for a short period of time.

She was preceded in death by her parents James Dudley and Mary Agnes Elizabeth (Dorsey) Cole; her sisters Mary C. and Barbara Ann Cole; brothers Joseph, Phillip, and Bernard Cole.

She is survived by her daughters, Cherika Cole, (fiance’ Jamaal), Cheneka Bailey, (husband Michael). Grandchildren Corvion Davis, Xavier Cole, Cynari Davis, Amir Cole, Camari Davis, Jasiah Cole (Bailey). Great grandson Kayveon Davis, Milton Harvey, (father of her children). Brothers Harold Cole, (wife Vivian), Pearl Cole, (wife Tina). Sisters Virginia Farmer, (husband Joseph), Shirley Thomas, (husband

Charles), Veronica Baylor, Charlotte Holton, (husband Antwan, now deceased); Catherine Proctor, Dorothy Bennett, (husband Alvin), Cecilia Cole, Audrey Cole and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She passed away from this life on July 6, 2023, at the age of 67. She was surrounded by family at the hour of her passing. All who were present described it as a beautiful transition, which brought them peace.
