George Davis King

George Davis King

George Davis King, the first born son of three boys and three girls to the late Issac H.
and Alice M. King in King and Queen County, Va., departed this earthly life on May
11, 2019 in Sacramento, California.

At an early age, George Davis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, and he joined
the Jerusalem Baptist Church, where he remained a member until his death.
George Davis graduated from Union High School in Caroline County, Virginia in
1947. He furthered his education and graduated from Howard University in Washington DC. May 29, 1982, he was united in holy matrimony with Kathryn A. Morrow
and from this union one child was born, John.

After serving his country in the US Armed Forces as an officer, he completed his PhD
in History at Indiana University and taught for many years in Historically Black Universities. Dr King also served as Professor and Chairman of Afro-American Studies. One of his duties was serving as a Special Assistant to the Speaker of the assembly of the California State Legislative. Dr. King has several publications to his name dealing with Afro-American History, Equality and Education. The California Legislative Black Caucus has honored him as a Living Legend for the First California Legislative Black Caucus Consultant, Lifetime Achievement Award, The Eternal Flame Public Service Award and many more. He was active in the community organizations including the NAACP.

George Davis joins his parents, Isaac H. and Alice King of Newtown, Va., two brothers
Isaac Jr. and William, one sister, Mary Bullock, and his daughter Shelley Brooks. He is
survived by his loving wife Kathryn; one daughter Irita Dianne; seven sons, George Jr.
(Ginger), David (Sondra), Kevin, Anthony (Linda), Gregory, Steven and John; two
sisters, Clara( Spencer) Williams and Lenora Dabney; and one sister-in-law, Sarah
King, all of Newtown, Va,; over nineteen grandchildren, 26 great-grand children and
one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews and other family members along
with dedicated friends.
