George A Gatewood

George A. Gatewood son of the late Edna Gatewood was born on April 21, 1930 in King George, VA. He departed this life after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday December 26, 2004 at 6:40 p.m. at the Heritage Hall Nursing Home in King George, Virginia. George was a member of Antioch Baptish were he served as an Usher.

George was the first African American to join the King George Volunteer Fire Departement in 1970 and became a life member of the organization. He also was an active member of the King George Masonic Lodge #314. He was a mechanic at Clift Motor Company for over twent-five years then proceeded to work for various local trucking organizations.

Cherishing his memories includes two daughters, Faye McDowney and Cornelia Stepney; two stepdaughters, Debra Hughey and Marcella Scott; four sons, Ernest, Ralph, Milton, and Gregory Gatewood; 19 Grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Gatewood; and a devoted companion Mary Johnson.
