On August 8, 2014 at Regional Memorial Hospital, God sent his angels to transition Gene Everett Ferguson to his new home. "And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43)
Gene was born on May 7, 1944 to the late William Arthur and Ida Mae Ferguson of Caroline County, Virginia.
Gene accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age becoming a member of Second Baptist Church in Ruther Glen, VA. He was a 1962 graduate of Union High School, Bowling Green, VA. Shortly after graduation, Gene joined the United States Army. His tours of duty included Fort Polk, Hawaii, Thailand, Japan and Vietnam. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Gene returned to work in Washington D.C. He later returned to Caroline and began working at Georgia Pacific in Milford, VA. where he remained for 34 years until his retirement in 2011.
Today we take a moment to pause, reflect and celebrate his life and the joy he brought to ours. He was a jack of all trades and when it came to automobiles, he could fix anything! Gene was known for being one of the best mechanics in Caroline Co. He was also an avid baseball fan. He loved the game and long after he stopped playing you could still find him in his recliner watching a game on TV.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his best friend and the love of his life, Jorie "Penny" Young of Bowling Green, VA; five daughters, Valencia Ferguson and Krystal Destry (Jason) of Washington D.C.; Marisa Ferguson-Hardy of Richmond, VA; Jayme Herndon (Taiwan) and Jessica Holmes of Bowling Green, VA and a son, Devron Carter (Shinetta) of Bowling Green, VA. Four sisters, Pauline Robinson of Hyattsville, MD; Lona Galloway (Clyde) of Dale City, VA; Elizabeth Johnson and Mildred Rollins of Ruther Glen, VA. Three brothers, James Ferguson of Washington D.C.; Leroy and Roy "Buck" Ferguson (Pauline) of Ruther Glen, VA; 14 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
