Being with those who are slowly losing their life can be a quick way to find deep appreciation of what it means to even have life. The end of the earthly life for our beloved one came on February 19, 2010.
Floyd Callaway Jefferson, Sr. was born on January 15, 1921, to the late Charles and Mae Ella Jefferson in King George. Va. He graduated from Ralph Bunche High School. After graduation, he met and subsequently married the love of his life, Blanche Rich. In addition to being his faithful COMPANION, she would become his BEST FRIEND AND LIFE PARTNER. This union was BLESSED with four children: Barbara (deceased), Joyce, Floyd, Jr., and Raynard. In the second year of their marriage, the couple moved to NJ in search of better opportunities and a better life.
Over the next 67 years, they would become a multi-state, one-of-a-kind "Missionary Team"-- feeding, clothing, and otherwise caring for and attending to 'God's Children' who were in need of shelter, food, clothing, understanding, love or a family. In addition to raising their natural children, they became 'chosen-parents' to more than 50 children and/or adults. Through outreach, acts of kindness, genuine caring, charity, and unswerving commitment to "loving thy neighbor as thyself", their extended family grew—from New St. in Newark (NJ), through N 19th St. in East Orange (NJ), to Kensington Ave. in Plainfield (NJ), and subsequently, to Crossing Rd in Fredericksburg. In the presence of this great outreach, they always had quality time for their children, grands, nieces and nephews. THE MORE LOVE THEY GAVE; THE MORE THEY HAD TO GIVE!
Floyd, affectionately known by many as "Daddy Floyd", held himself to very high ethical and moral standards, in both his personal and business dealings. In addition, he was a hard worker, fiercely independent and insisted on "paying his own way". He was a caring, considerate, kind, even-tempered, soft-spoken man, who was slow (if not impossible) to anger, but quick to forgive. He was indeed, a Christian man. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was always active in his church. After moving back to Virginia 15 years ago, he joined Shiloh Baptist (Old Site) where he remained a faithful member. "Daddy Floyd" always carried himself in a dignified way. He was a meticulous and polished dresser—some even say, "debonair".
He leaves to cherish the wonderful memories, his wife, Blanche Jefferson; three natural children: Joyce Campbell(Aaron), Watchung, NJ; Floyd C. Jefferson, Jr "Jeff", Montclair, NJ; and Raynard Jefferson(Robyn), East Orange, NJ; one Sister: Iantha Smith, Suitland, MD; two chosen-daughters: Debbie Mitchell, Charlotte, NC and Desiree Baez, Atlanta, Ga; 17 Grandchildren; 17 Great-grandchildren; 2 Great-great grandchildren, and a host of foster-children, nieces, nephews and friends.
