Faye W Freeman

Faye Wooden Freeman was called to be with the Lord on March 21,2021 at Memorial Regional Medical Center. She was born on October 19,1950 in Richmond, VA to Lacy L. Wooden and Rebecca Johns Wooden. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and join Lebanon Baptist Church in Surry County, VA.

Faye lived her early life in Prince George, VA where she attended their public schools and lived on a 236 acre farm. She later attended Virginia State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education, graduating a year early. She also received her Masters of Education from University of Virginia in May of 1988 where she was a certified Reading Specialist. Faye taught in Suffolk Public Schools for 1 year as well as Caroline County Public Schools for 33 years retiring in 2005. Upon many successes, she taught several grade levels. The grade levels she taught were 3rd grade, 4th grade as well as 5th grade specifically Reading and Writing. Her favorite specialty was working with those children that was left behind which was known as Chapter One in the 1980s. Faye believed in this position because it is one on one interaction with students to strengthen their knowledge and understanding. One of her greatest accomplishments was having high tests scores in the County in Creative Writing. For every student she taught she played a huge role in shaping their lives and inspiring her students to achieve their highest goals.

On April 10,1971, Faye married Bernard Chester Freeman. In which she moved to Caroline County, VA. They remained married for 41 years until God called Bernard home in 2012. With this union came two children, Kenneth Bernard Freeman and Keisha Faye Freeman.

Faye loved and believed that all things are possible with God. She was a committed member of St. John Baptist Church in Milford, VA for many years serving as a faithful servant. Faye enjoyed traveling when she retired with her children’s help. She has traveled to Puerto Rico, St. Marteen, St. Lucia, St. Thomas, Bermuda, Barbados as well as the Bahamas. Even growing up Faye and Gabriella along with their parents went to a different state each year actually exploring all 50 states. Faye loved shopping for clothes and shoes in which she would go almost every weekend to see what deals she could find. She had over 200 pairs of shoes and over 300 purses. Faye is also famous for buying off season clothes as well as buying crafts. When her health declined, Faye was adamant about living life to the fullest no matter her condition. She also loved game shows, going to Williamsburg Outlets, eating out and of course shopping in her famous scooter. Faye never gave up and never complain, even to the end. May the work she has done in the community and how she touched each child that she taught speak for her. In her famous words, she would say, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course and I kept the faith in God through it all.”
