Etta Louise Campbell Alsop passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Plano, Texas.
The daughter of Sophia Gaskins and Raymond Campbell, Sr., Etta was born in Donton Mill, Virginia on July 30, 1927. Etta attended Lancaster County Public Schools and in her youth joined Calvary Baptist Church in Kilmarnock, Virginia. As an adult she moved her membership to Enon Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where she remained an active member until her health began to fail.
Etta was loving and opinionated – unafraid to speak what was on her mind. She cared deeply for her family and friends and loved spending time talking and being with the ones she loved. Her career was dedicated to supporting our country's government, and she retired from the Social Security Agency in 1988.
Etta married James Douglas Alsop, Sr. on April 9, 1955. They have one son, James Douglas Alsop, Jr. She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Her life and accomplishments are remembered by her son, James Jr., daughter-in-law, Marlene A. Hurd, and grandson, Justin D. Alsop. Her memory is also cherished by two foster sisters: Shirley Womack and Cora Dean; one brother in-law, Andrew J. White; eight sisters in-law: Elois Campbell of Baltimore, MD, Bessie A. Stanback of Portsmouth, VA, Iris Alsop of Washington, DC, Adell Alsop and Myrtle Alsop of Newtown, VA, Roberta White of New Carrollton, MD, Gracie White of Petersburg, VA, Minnie Johnson of Newtown, VA, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Etta joins her husband James Sr. who passed in August 2003.
