Estelle Bumbry

Estelle Whiting Bumbry of King George, Virginia, slipped into eternal rest on February 22, 2010. She was born on September 10, 1925 to the late Spencer and Ruth Whiting in Caroline County, Virginia. She was educated in the Caroline County School System.

At an early age, Estelle accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church Supply, Virginia. After moving to King George, she joined Salem Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of the Senior Choir, Eveready Choraleers and Senior Usher Board. With her quiet spirit she would witness to those she met about the goodness of the Lord, but to those who knew her best, she loved to joke around and would always take the time to talk to you if you had the desire. Estelle had a glorious laugh and a sharp wit that her loved ones will miss.

She was united in Holy Matrimony on August 20, 1948, to the late Deacon Josiah Bumbry. She leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted daughter, Annie Dickinson, her son-in-law Paul Dickinson, Jr; three grandchildren, Tonia Dickinson, Crystal Dickinson-Dirden (husband Brandon Dirden), and John Dickinson; two great grandchildren, Maya Pinkney and Ondia McDonald-Dickinson; one great great grandchild, Layla Williams; six sisters; Irene Jefferson, Helen Johnson, Gladys Pryor, Winnie B. Pryor, Dorothy Washington and Mabel Yancey; six brother-in-laws, Rev. Matthew V. Bumbry and Russell Bumbry and Chester F. McDowney; two sister-in-laws, Shirley Whiting and Elizabeth Whiting; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and a special little friend, Julius Robert Sanders who loved and called her grandma.

Estelle was known as a meticulous homemaker, she liked to keep her home and landscape immaculate. She would work numerous hours in her yard planting flowers, trimming shrubbery and raking leaves to beautify her landscape. She was an independent woman full of dignity, honor and righteousness and she taught her family the value of each one of those noble traits.

The Lord will direct your path if you yield to your heart unto Him. Happy is the life in which it has been done.
