Elma Lee Washington

Elma Lee Washington was born January, 1932 to the late Robert Mahoney and Ada Robertson Mahoney of Caroline County, Virginia.

Elma completed her education in Hampton, Virginia. She accepted Christ as her Saviour at an early age and joined the First Mount Zion Baptist Church in Sparta, Virginia. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grand mother. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by one brother, George Mahoney, Sr., one son;, Robert Spencer Washington; one grandson Leon Washington, and four great-grandchildren, Lawrence Wood III, NyKeisha Staton, Alpheus Staton, Jr., and DeAndre Staton.

Elma leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 55 years, Richard Washington, Sr., 12 children, Rev. Alice Woods of Ladysmith, Virginia, Richard Washington, Jr., Raymond Washington both of Bowling Green, Virginia, Ruby Washington, Michael Washington, Sr., Robert Washington, James Washington, Arlene Washington, Edward Washington all of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Ronald Washington of Washington, D.C., Anthony Washington, and Barbara Washington, also of Fredericksburg, Virginia; one son-in-law, Maurice Woods of Ladysmith, Virginia, 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. One aunt , Sarah Chapman of Bowling Green, Virginia, to sisters-in-law, Daisy Watson of Maryland and Mary Upshaw of Bowling Green, Virginia, one brother-in-law, Rev. Arthur Washington (Gloria) of Milford, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
