Ella Mae Richards

October 26, 1916 — December 16, 2011

Ella Mae Richards

On Dec 16, 2011 in the home of her sister and brother-in-law Charles and Alberta Byrd God extended his almighty hand of love and gently took Ella Mae Richards home to eternal life.

Ella graced this world with her stylish presence on October 26, 1916. She was the second of six children born to the late Richard and Lucy Richards. She was educated in the public schools of Westmoreland County VA. After seeing the need to help her parents financially, she moved to Washington DC where she attended school at night while working during the day. After graduating from Cardoza High School she then enrolled in a Nursing School and graduated as an LPN. She worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Dr. Lippo's Medical Office and then as a private nurse in various homes and hospitals. During her work experience she had the opportunity to travel extensively including London England and Paris France.

Ella accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age uniting with the Little Zion Baptist Church, Oak Grove VA. She also had affiliation with the Vermont Avenue Baptist Church in Washington DC. After retirement she moved back to Virginia to be reunited with family and friends. She served faithfully in the church as President of the LZBC Floral Ministry and an active member of other church activities for many years. She was willing to work wherever she was needed until she was no longer able to attend.

Ella also called "GOLD" was a loving and devoted woman to her family and friends. She touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with. She was loved and well known to all as Aunt Ella.

Ella was preceded in death by her loving parents, the late Richard and Lucy Richards; a Brother John Richards; two sisters Josephine Jones and Lucille Davis.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: one brother Charles Arthur Richards of Chester PA; one sister Alberta R. Byrd and brother-n-law Charles Byrd of Colonial Beach VA; one God child Leroy Thomas of Washington DC and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
