Eleanor Elliott Hunt

Eleanor Elliott Ferguson Queen-Hunt was born on October 21, 1941 to the late Walter and Annie Laura Beverly Ferguson in Bowling Green, Virginia. A devout Christian, she was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Virginia at an early age. She joined and served as an usher. Years later, she joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Woodford, Virgina under the leadership of former Pastor, Rev. Doctor Williams; current Pastor is Carol L. Jackson.

Eleanor was educated in the Caroline County Public School system. She was an outstanding basketball player in high school. She left Bowling Green and moved to Stafford, Virginia and married the late Carol R. Queen, Sr. Years later, she returned back to Bowling Green and went back to night-school to earn her GED. She was employed at the Virginia Department of Transportation for over 25 years until her health started to take a toll. She took independant jobs by being an in-home janitor. After her last child graduated high school, she also went back to school to be educated as a “Home Health Care Nurse.” She worked as an At-Home Caregiver for nearly ten years, ensuring every patient was cared for with much love and “Yes”; she was working two jobs simultaneously.

Despite her hectic schedule: family, church and friends were Eleanor’s passion and delight. She enjoyed holiday gatherings and traveling. She valued education and pressed all her grandchildren to continue their education.

As a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Eleanor will be remembered as a strong-willed woman. She \was proud to be a member of the Usher and Hospilitaly Ministries. Both ministries she loved, served proudly, and took very seriously until her health began to decline.

The Lord chose to issue Eleanor with her wings early Saturday morning, June 26, 2021. She was preceded in this calling by her late husband James H. Hunt Jr, her brothers John A. and Arthur Lee Ferguson, and sisters Carol Barrington Ferguson and Frances Maxine Coleman.

Left to carry on her legacy and cherished memories are her brother Anthony L. Ferguson of Bowling Green, VA; two sisters Mary Williams of Ashland, Virginia and Gloria Grey (Mike) of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Her six children; Carol Rother Queen Jr., Theresa Annie Queen, Dulanie Linda Queen and Joe B. Queen - all of Richmond, VA., Veronica Irene Queen, of Bowling Green and Cynthia Lillian Poole (Ray) of Woodbridge, VA. Ten grandchildren, Lance, Noelle, Samuel, Jo’nae, Samanthia-Rae, Brianna, Stanley II, Carmen, Migel and Karah. Three great-grandchildren Laila, Frank III and Quentin.

You are everything that makes a MomMa (Nana) the nicest and warmest kind when God created mother’s (Nana’s). You were what He had in mind. Take your rest MomMa (Nana) you are finally free. With love, always and forever! Her children rise up and call her blessed … Proverbs 31:28a
