Edna M. Lucas

Edna Mae Lucas was born on May 1, 1932 to Nancy Brown and Henry Lucas in King George County, Virginia both of whom preceded her in death. Edna went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Oct 13, 2012 at 10:00 p.m. after an extended stay at Cherry Lane Nursing Center.

Edna was educated in the King George County Public School system and attended Ralph Bunche High School. As a child growing up in a Christian home, Edna accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in to the Good Hope Baptist Church family. She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail her and she moved to Maryland to live with her son, Sylvester, where she continued her worship at Freedom Way Missionary Baptist Church. At Good Hope, Edna was a member of the Women's Auxiliary and the Flower Club. However, ushering was her passion. She served as an usher for over 50 years and for a time was president of the Youth Usher Board.

Over the years, Edna had several employers; however, she was proud of her work with the King George County Public Schools as a bus driver

Family was very important to Edna. She was born into a large family of 13 children: Earl, Helen, Elvira, Roy, Wilson, John, Azeal, Nancy, Claudia, Maria, and Cecil who preceded her in death and Elizabeth Peyton who still resides and King George, Virginia. Edna leaves to cherish her memory, four sons: Sylvester (Deborah) of Laurel Maryland, William (Nita) of Rhode Island; John of King George, Virginia, and Mark (Beverly) of Washington, DC; nine living grandchildren and one deceased, a host of great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.

"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints"
Psalm 116:15
