Edna B Johnson

On Monday, February 2, 2004, God in His love and mercy called to rest Sister Edna Bertha Johnson.

Edna was born on January 5, 1918 to the late Zack and Addie Davis of King George.

Her education began at Edgehill Elementary School where she completed the course of study in 1932. She attended high school in New York City and graduated in 1936.

She returned to King George and married the late Booker T. Johnson on April 24, 1939. The couple had one daughter.

Edna joined the Union Bethel Baptist Church in 1938, where she served faihtfully. She served as Church Clerk, a Trustee, a member of Mass and Gospel Choirs of the church, the Kitchen Committee and chairperson of the Flower Club.

She was a very loving and kind person. God gave her the special gift of sharing. She shared her home with many new teachers who moved to the area as well as a police officer and other people who moved to King George and needed place to live. She became their mentor and shared her love and wisdom with them. She also provided a home for three foster children. They all became a part of the family, and most of them kept in contact with her unitl her passing.

Edna leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughter, La Shay Childs ; one son-in-law, Vincent Childs of Bowling Green, Va.; her grandchildren, Saeed Muhammad and his wife, Cleo Muhammad of Fredericksburg, Va.; Kristen Bolden and husband Lance Bolden of Ruther Glen, Va.; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Richardson and brother-in-law, Claude Richardson of Washington, D. C.; two brothers, Zack Davis III of King George, Va.; Thomas Davis of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Muriel Fitzhugh of King George, Va.;, Lottie Johnson of Fredericksburg, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. There were some very special people in her life, friends, Charles and Minerva Scranage, Ida Hodge,Corrine Hodge and Arlene Tolliver; nieces, Josephine Burnette, Althea Monroe and Evelyn Johnson; nephews, Tommy Monroe, Wendell Johnson, and Raymond ''Elmo'' Johnson; and
''grandchildren'' Lori Anderson and Wendy Dyer.
