Edna Arlene Howard

Edna Arlene Howard was born June 1, 1936 in Hustle, VA. daughter of the late Leo Dorsey Gaines and Cora Fortune Gaines. She was proceeded in death by a husband Bernard Howard Sr, a grandson Jermon (JByrd) Howard, a sister Charlotte Gaines and three brothers Maynard Gaines, Leo Clemon Gaines, and James Gaines.

At an early age she accepted Christ and joined Mount Olive Baptist Church, Hustle, VA. After her marriage union she joined church with her husband at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Spotsylvania, VA where she became a Deaconess. On January 5, 1957 she was joined in holy matrimony to Bernard Washington Howard of Rappahannock Academy, VA. From this union four children were born. Arlene attended Essex County Public Schools. She was employed at CVS Distribution Center and retired in 2007 after twenty-two years of service. Retirement did not keep her home for long before she went back to work for Macy's in Fredericksburg for the last seven years. Arlene was a loving woman who wore a smile all the time that was unforgettable. She loved to help people all the time. Most knew her as Arlene, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, sister. Also, most knew her as a true dedicated New York Yankee's fan. Her favorite player was Derek Jeter. New York Yankee's was her favorite team because of her father.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children; Bernard Jr. of Rappahannock Academy; Tor and wife Hope of Spotsylvania; Amanda Morton and husband Tony of Woodford; Roderick and wife Sonya of Ladysmith; Fourteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her sisters and brother, Louise Braxton Hustle, VA, Alma Nelson Center Cross, VA, William "BillyBoy" Gaines Austin, TX three brother in laws, William Nelson Center Cross, VA, Douglas Braxton, Hustle, and Arthur Holmes King George, VA. Sister- in- laws Mary B. Gaines and Hampton Gaines Hustle, VA, Lucille Coleman and Dorothy Fortune of Dale City. Edna Harrison of Goldsburg, NC, A special former daughter in law Annette Young of Spotsylvania, a dear friend Edris Stafford and host of nieces nephews cousins and friends.
