On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Edith Maria (Thompson) Johnson, loving wife, mother and sister transitioned from her earthly life at the age of seventy years young, surrounded by her loving family. Edith was born on December 29, 1953 to the late Sydney Fairfax Thompson and Thelma Elizabeth Thompson in Indian Head, Maryland.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, sister Joyce Chase, mother-in-law Minnie Johnson, father-in-law Harold Johnson, Sr., sisters-in-law Thelma Latney, Sheila Morton and Linda Thompson.
Edith was educated in the Charles County Public School System where she attended and graduated from Lackey High School in 1971. She received her Associate’s Degree in Education at Germanna Community College.
On June 1, 1984, Edith was united in Holy Matrimony to Manuel Ellis Johnson. From that union, they had a blended family of three sons, Manuel (Manny), Patrick and Brandon Johnson and one daughter Andrea Nicole Berry.
Edith’s career path included twenty years with the Metropolitan District of Columbia Police Department. After retiring from the Metropolitan Police Department, she was employed with the Special Security for the Drug Enforcement Agency and Fannie Mae. She also worked for the U.S. Marshals Service. Her final job was with the King George County School System as a Substitute Teacher.
One of the things that brought joy to Edith was going to the movies with her three sons. In addition to her family and friends, other pleasures were dancing, singing, and going to concerts. Dancing was number one. She also loved to travel with her greatest trip being to Jamaica.
Edith leaves loving memories with her husband, sons and daughter. She also leaves cherished memories with her sisters: Thelma “Gertie” Pettie, and Gloria Thompson; brothers: Leonard Thompson (Victoria), G. Marshall Thomspon, W. Maurice Thompson (Tara), Mark Kimbrough (Cynthia) and Glenn Jones (Paula); grandson Keagan Slaughter-Johnson, granddaughter Aliyah Nelson; brother-in-law Harold Johnson, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
