Dr. Daisy Jones Brown

Dr. Daisy Louise Jones Brown was born to the late Wilbur Jones and the late Mary
Wormley Jones of Corbin, Virginia. She was the eldest of their three daughters.
She joined Long Branch Baptist Church at an early age. She served as a Deaconess,
President of the Missionary Ministry, and as the Church Clerk. Recently, she joined Zion
Grove Baptist Church so she could worship with her family.
Dr. Brown graduated with honors from Union High School in Bowling Green, VA. She
attained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing and Management from
the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. She received a Masters
Degree, summa cum laude, in Adult Education from Cheyney University and began work on
her Doctorate at Temple University in Philadelphia. She returned home to Corbin, and
continued doctoral studies at the Fredericksburg Bible Institute and Seminary, where she
earned her Doctorate Degree, cum laude, in Religious Education.
She retired from Bell Telephone Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after 30 years,
After returning home, Dr. Brown became the Lead Teacher in Caroline County with the
Adult Education Program. She was a Faculty Member at the University of Mary Washington,
teaching the James Farmer Scholars. Dr. Brown was also a Professor at the Fredericksburg
Bible Institute and Seminary, where she taught courses in Women of the Bible, the Old
Testament, and the New Testament. Out of all the teaching she has done, she said, “the
most rewarding has been teaching God’s Word.”
She served as President of the Mattaponi Women’s Missionary and Education
Convention. She was the Missionary President of the Baptist General Convention of Virginia.
She was a faithful member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was married to the late Peter S. Brown.
She is survived by one loving and devoted daughter, Min. Licia Danielle Reynolds (Dea.
Kenneth); two loving and devoted granddaughters who she adored, Licia Leigh-Anne Daisy
Williams-Hawthorne (Rian), and Kiya Louise Danielle and one step grandson Kenneth
Reynolds II; a precious great-granddaughter, Lariah Archelle Williams-Hawthorne; two loving
sisters, Mary Lee Jones Williams (Dea. William), and Prof. Williabel Jones Davis; a paternal
aunt, Dea. Elizabeth Jones Young; a paternal uncle, James Edward Jones; a maternal aunt,
Ethel Reed; four nephews, Rev. Hausey L. Woodfolk III (Denise), Wilbur Obrian Woodfolk
(Sylvia), Anthony S. Woodfolk, and Ronald W. Davis II; many cousins – one special, Marshall
Gahagan (Julia) – and numerous other relatives and friends who loved her, including her Red
Hatters and “The Ladies.”
