Dorothy L. Coleman

Dorothy Lee Robinson Coleman was born on December 23, 1924 in Essex County, Virginia to the late James and Mary Robinson Nickens. She departed this life on July 3, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

Dorothy was educated in Essex County Public Schools. At an early age she was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Hustle, Virginia. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Walter Coleman, to this union twelve children were born.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Dorothy was a loving and kind person that touched everyone she came in contact with. When you needed someone to talk to or just someone to listen, she was always there. Her door was always open for anyone who needed a place to stay. She was loved and respected by everyone.

She leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters, Dorothy A. Bundy of Tappahannock, Va., Marie Thompson (Howard) of Westmoreland, Va, Peachie and Irene Coleman both of Hustle, Va; five sons, Thomas Coleman (Lucy) of Tappahannock, Va, Ricky, Melvin and James Coleman all of Hustle, Va, Gene Coleman (Arlene) of Caret, Va, five sisters, Lola Hinson (George) of Palmyra, New Jersey, Helen Morgan of Trenton, New Jersey, Addie Fortune of Port Royal, Va, Gladys Johnson (Malchia) of Bowling Green, Va, Emma Childs (McArthur) of Bowling Green, Va, one aunt, Marie Burrell of West Point, Va, twenty-five grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bennie and Daryl Coleman and one daughter, Rebecca Pitts.
