Donald "Kee" Byrd

Donald McKee Byrd, affectionately known as “Kee”, was born on June 15, 1949 to the late George Joseph Byrd and Mary Byrd of Sparta, VA.

On June 06, 2011, at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA. God called our loved one from earth to glory. “But our commonwealth is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ”(Phil. 3:20)

At an early age McKee was baptized and joined the St. Stephens Baptist Church in Central Point, Virginia. He attended the Caroline County Public Schools and was a graduate of Union High School, Bowling Green, VA.

McKee was a dedicated truck driver for over 20 years. He loved the open road and enjoyed expressing his knowledge and prowess of the occupation. Although working for several trucking organizations, his last years of employment were with Nalco Trucking, where he eventually retired.

We pause today to pay respect to our beloved son, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

McKee leaves to cherish fond memories: His mother, Mary Byrd of Sparta, Va. His son Joseph McKee (Nick) Byrd of San Diego, CA, his daughter Shirelle Harris of Glen Allen , VA and Corey Fogg of Henrico, VA. Five sisters; Barbara O’Neal of Champlain, VA, Maxine Johnson of Ft. Wayne, IN, Lelia Fortune of Bowling Green, VA, Donna Byrd of Ruther Glen, VA, and Lydia Byrd of Ruther Glen, VA. Two brothers: Maynard Byrd of Ft. Wayne, IN and Bennie Byrd of Fredericksburg, VA. His best friend, Garnett Anderson of Ashland VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
