Deborah G. Grant

Deborah Gillean Grant, daughter of the late Rev. Ellis Fortune and Evelyn L. Fortune; was born March 9, 1959, departed this life on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at her home after battling a brain tumor for the past two years. She was preceded in death by her brother Ellis Pierre Fortune and her sister Talaya Fortune.

Deborah attended Spotsylvania County schools and graduated in 1977. She was born and raised in Spotsylvania, Virginia where she spent most of her life. On February 28, 1981 she was joined in holy matrimony with Robert Grant, Jr., and with this union they were blessed with two daughters.

She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Spotsylvania, Virginia; she also shared her spiritual life at First Baptist Church in Woodford, Virginia. She was employed with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol where her career extended to over 25 years of service.

"Jill" as she was affectionately known as was not afraid to give God praise whether it be through testimony or song, she truly loved the Lord!

Jill was full of love, joy and it gave her pleasure to make others laugh. Before her health began to fail she also enjoyed traveling.

Those left to cherish her memories are two daughters, Talaya J. Hill (Tremayne, Sr.) of Kingsland, Georgia and Ebone Grant of Spotsylvania, Virginia; her husband Robert Grant of Fredericksburg, Virginia; her mother, Evelyn L. Fortune of Spotsylvania, Virginia; two sisters, Sylenna Byrd (Kyle) of Spotsylvania, Virginia; Rev. Wanda Sweeney, Halifax, Virginia; one brother, Rev. William H. Fortune (Jerri) of Stafford, Virginia; two grandsons David and Tremayne, Jr. of Kingsland, Georgia; her mother-in-law, Betty Grant of Fredericksburg, Virginia; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
