Deaconess Sarah E. Robinson

Sarah Elizabeth Holmes Robinson, affectionately known as "Granny & Grandma" entered eternal rest at 1:48am on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Sarah was born in Caroline County, Virginia on July 23, 1917 to the late Ada Elizabeth Cook- Holmes and John Burnett Holmes Sr. She was married to the late Woodford Robinson Jr. Woodford passed one month prior to the birth of their youngest son Earl. Sarah reared thirteen of their fourteen children as a single parent. She's preceded in death by three siblings: Richard, James "Alfred", and John B. Holmes Jr., and twelve children: James M (infant), Edward A., Richard F., Wilton E. and James M. Robinson, Ada E. Lumpkin , Margaret L. Robinson, Mildred L. Campbell, Patricia E. Harrison, Wilbur L. Robinson, Shirley D. Hughey and Earl D. Robinson
Sarah attended school in Caroline County. Although family obligations prevented her from furthering her education beyond the seventh grade, she never allowed that hinder her abilities.
Sarah worked for many as a caretaker for the Walkers and Broughton's of King George. With the Broughton's she was not just the caretaker, she was family. Sarah was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. The Holmes/Robinson Matriarch spoke with a soft yet stern voice, each word spoken commanded respect and attention.
Sarah received Christ at an early age and joined the Salem Baptist Church in King George, Virginia, where she served on the Deaconess Board as well as the Board of Ushers. On November 29, 1953, she joined the Guiding Star Chapter 216 of the Eastern Star where she's now a Charter Member.

In February 2003 the strong family Matriarch's life as she had known it began to fade and be silenced by the affects of Alzheimer.

To know her was to love her. Her life has touched the lives of many. She leaves to cherish her precious memory two children, Geraldine A. Robinson of Dahlgren, VA and Woodford M. Robinson (Lorraine) of King George, VA ., a loving and devoted granddaughter Dorothy "Dottie" (Kevin) McDowney, in which she raised as her own, Twenty-Seven Grandchildren, Thirty-Seven Great Grandchildren and twelve Great-Great Grandchildren. Five siblings that she also natured as her own following the passing of their mother: Margaret L. Robinson (Peyton - deceased) of Washington, DC, George L. Holmes (Virginia – deceased), Dea. Robert P. Holmes (Joan), Frank E. Holmes (Mildred) and Major W. Holmes (Juanita) all of King George, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
