On the afternoon of April 28, 2009, God dispatched His angels from heaven and touched the brow of our loved one and said "It's time to come home".
Deaconess Christine D. Waters was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia on January 20, 1936 to Eleanor Dudley who preceded her in death. Her husband Alvin J. Waters and her son Leroy N. Dudley preceded her in death. She joined First Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Charles. She graduated at the age of 16 from A. T. Johnson High School. She was employed by various federal agencies and in 1997 she retired from the National Endowment for the Humanities with 38 years of service.
Deaconess Waters faithfully served her church and community. She was a member of the Usher Board and served as the President from 1983-1994. She was a member of the Missionary Ministry, Pastor Aid and Deaconess. Deaconess Waters was active in her attendance and financial support of the ministries. She also served as Treasurer of the A.T. Johnson Alumni.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters-Jewel Gilliam, Temple Hills, MD and Shirley Gilliam, Petersburg, VA; two grandchildren-Kristin and Lauren Gilliam; one adopted grandchild-Nevaeh Belk; three godchildren-Richard Lewis Holmes, Robin Tripplett and Kelly Smith; four sisters-Marjorie Wynn and Joyce Blakey (Preston) of Charlottesville, VA; Julia Mae Thompson (Theadore) of Colonial Beach, VA; Frances Holmes (Arthur) of King George, VA; three brothers-Benjamin Dudley (Verdeen) and Eugene Dudley (Gwen) of Colonial Beach, VA, and William Dudley (Ebbie) of King George, VA. Robert Dudley, another brother, preceded her in death; two sister-in-law, Shirley Adams and Bernadette Waters; one brother-in-law- Paul Waters.
Deaconess Waters presence, kindness, compassion, dedication and unconditional love will sorely be missed. She always exhibited a love for life and God through her caring and sharing. She was a strong mother figure to all and acquired the name "Mother Waters".
