Deaconess Annie C. Flood

October 3, 1917 — December 17, 2009

Deaconess Annie C. Flood

0n the afternoon of December 17, 2009, Annie Christine Flood made her transition to her eternal home.

Annie was born in Caroline County, Virginia on October 3, 1917 to Richard and Emma Lomax. Both parents preceded her in death as well as her only sibling, Esther Surles and her stepfather, Reverend F. F. Terrell.

Upon completing her education in Caroline County Public Schools, Annie Frequently traveled to Washington, D.C. with her favorite cousin and best friend Blanche Colbert. Prior to Blanche's failing health and subsequent passing, you seldom saw one without the other.

God blessed Annie with the love of her life, Eddie Flood who also preceded her in death. They were joined in holy matrimony and settled down in Woodford, Va. where she lovingly raised their son, William E. Flood and their nephew, Willie Astor Burrell who preceded her in death also. She was a stay-at-home mom who took in laundry to help support the family. Also, she spent much of her time caring for sick relatives, assisting her friends and performing numerous duties within her church.

Annie joined Zion Grove Baptist Church early in life and was an extremely supportive member and a dedicated participant in many church auxiliaries until she was no longer able. She was a member of the Missionary Society, the Pastor's Aide Club, the Deaconess Board, the Flower Club and the Nurses Unit.

Mrs. Annie Flood was a special lady who could always make you laugh. Certainly, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her son, William E. Flood, Sr. (Gwendolyn) of Greensboro, NC; six grandchildren, William E. Flood, Jr., Darnell L. Flood both of Fredericksburg, VA., Jahnique I. Flood of Greensboro, NC, Shane O. Whitfield of Suffolk, VA, Ronald Cross of Greensboro, NC, and Terri Broadnax of Marietta, GA; eleven great-grandchildren; a devoted cousin, June Smith and her husband, Douglas Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
