Deacon Smith was born on March 6, 1917 to the late William Sr. and Mary Smith in Caroline County.
Deacon William L. ''Easy Town'' Smith, Jr., of Spotsylvania County departed this life on Friday, September 17, 2004 at his workplace, the Mine Road Convenience Landfill.
He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, were he served as a deacon. He was the former owner and operator of The Wayside Inn in Fredericksburg and Smith Trucking Co. After retirement, he worked as a landfill attendant for Spotsylvania County.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Smith; five daughters, Virginia McMichael of Maryland; Lilah Stewart of King George; Kathy Watkins of Montross; Mary and Beverly Smith, both of Spotsylvania; eight sons, Staff Sgt. William L. Smith III of Fort Campbell, Ky.; Marvin Brown of Richmond, Anthony L., Phillip B. and Al L. Smith, all of Fredericksburg; James S. Smith of Spotsylvania; William Brooks of Texas and the Rev. Vendell Brooks of North Carolina; Father and mother-in-law, James and Mary Brown; one sister-in-law, Roxanne Brown; two brother-in-laws, Russell and Donald Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
