Deacon Preston Carter Johnson

Deacon Preston Carter Johnson departed this life on Monday, August 15, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. He was born on August 4, 1921 to the late Deacon Fairfax and Catherine Johnson.

He married Evelina Hamilton in November 1959 in St. James Trinidad. He resided in Jamaica, New York for 33 years. When he moved back to Dahlgren, VA in 1969 he rejoined Little Ark Baptist Church. He became a deacon under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. John W. Chapman, Sr. He was also a longtime member of the Young Men�s Jubilee. He was a faithful servant and leader until his health began to fail him.

Deacon Preston began his working career at NCWC Dahlgren before joining the Navy during World War II. He also served during the Korean War. After he was discharged from the Navy he moved to New York where he worked for Air France as an aircraft mechanic for 37 years. In his leisure time he loved to fish and work in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his son, Keith, his wife of nearly 50 years, Evelina, his brothers, Thomas, Purcell, and Augustus.

Deacon Preston is survived by his sister, Romay Davis of Alabama, his brother, Stansberry Johnson of California, a special friend, Audrey Jagbir of Trinidad, his nephews Barry (Judith) Jagbir of Dahlgren, Desmond (Carmen) Jagbir of New York, Stephen (Shirley) Roberts of Florida, Russell (Jennifer) Jagbir and Lennie Jagbir all of Trinidad, and Clint Johnson of California, his goddaughter, Roslyn Jagbir of New Jersey and his nieces Margaret Jagbir of Virginia, Karen Battles of Maryland, Lydia Gadaleta of California, Artie Johnson of Florida, and a host of great nephews and nieces.
