Deacon Mansfield Coleman life's book of a very full life was closed early on Thursday morning, October 21, 2004 at his home. Mansfield was born to the late Robert and Edna Coleman on August 9, 1922 in Supply. He accepted Christ and joined Ebenezer Baptist Church at the age of 11. He was a graduate of Essex County Training School.
Mansfield married Mary Gardner on November 23, 1943. From this union, their five children were born.
One brother, Deacon Isham Coleman, preceded him in death.
As a member of Ebenezer, he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for 16 years. Other services included membership of the Trustee Board, Church Treasurer, Superintendent and teacher of Sunday School, Church Clerk, and Men's Chorus. He was a firm believer in tithing and gave freely of his time and other resources to his church.
Through his wisdom, leadership, support, and love he has molded and touched many lives. His life's example serves as an inspiration to all that knew him.
Deacon Coleman's passing leaves a void in the life of many who will cherish fond memories, including his wife, Mary; one son, Robert (Bobby); four daughters, Virginia Ann Cameron, Shirley C. Latney, Faye C. Smith, and Delphine Davis; two sons-in-law, Dr. Johnnie Cameron and John Latney; nine grandchildren, Waverly, Rodney, Terrell, Jerry, Marcus, Danita, Jameka, Johnnie, and Kristen; thirteen great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Robert Gardner, and one sister-in-law, Vergie Coleman; nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, the oldest are Ruth Vaughan and Ella Jackson; other relatives and friends.
