Deacon David Bushrod

Deacon David Bushrod departed this life on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia after a brief illness. He was born August 31, 1926 in Westmoreland County, Virginia to the late Abraham and Blanche Washington Bushrod. His formal education was received in the Westmoreland County Public Schools.

David was united in Holy Matrimony to Opal Lucile Ball on September 30, 1950. From this union were born three sons.

Deacon Bushrod accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church in Colonial Beach, Virginia where he remained active until the end. During his life, he had served as a member of the Trustee Ministry, past chairman of the Deacon Ministry, past chairman of the Cemetery Ministry, past member of the Senior Choir and Men's Chorus and a member of the Pulpit Search Committee. He was also a member of the King George Branch NAACP, American Legion Post #329, Charter Member of Masonic Lodge #314, Charter Member of Guiding Star #216 Order of Easter Star all of King George, Virginia. He was also a current Board member of the King George Chamber of Commerce, member of the Dahlgren Lions Club, King George County Democratic Committee and an advocate worker during State and Local elections. He also volunteered his service with the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary.

Deacon Bushrod served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1947 during World War II. He retired from the Naval Surface Weapons Center in Dahlgren, Virginia after 37 years of service. He began a refuse hauling and moving business in 1960. Deacon Bushrod was one of the original attendants at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, when the doors first opened in 1998. He was a man that loved life, liked to travel and spend time with his family.

David was predeceased by three brothers, Wilbur, Thomas and Abraham, Jr. and one sister, Daisy Hickman.

David leaves to cherish his many memories his loving and devoted wife of 60 years Opal; three sons Wayne (Sheryl) of King George, Virginia, David Keith of Bristow, Virginia, Gregory (Adrienne) of Sacramento, California; three Grandchildren Jasmine Bushrod, Christian Bushrod, Taylor Bushrod; two brothers Arthur and James; six sister in laws Hazel Bushrod, Idabel Bushrod, Isabell Bushrod, Jessie Brown, Hazel Pierce, Regina El; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
