Curtis Liggins

Curtis was born on September 13, 1920 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Harvey and Alberta Liggins. Curtis was one of four children. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Leo and one sister, Naomi. Curtis joined the
U. S. Navy in 1939 and served 20 years to 1959. He then worked at NSWC in Dahlgren, Virginia, for the Federal Government, and after many years there, he finallly retired. His travels in the U. S. Navy took him througout the world and brought him to Dahlgren, Virginia where he met and married Ruth Robb. They have one son, Troy.

Curtis was a friend to all. It can be said that he was the friend of every child he encountered. Probably, because he actually talked and listened to them, which so excited them that in their minds, Curtis was one of them. He loved to gather with many family and friends, often hosting barbecues and preparing meals with his wife, Ruth. In so many ways, he was always giving of himself. Tools of every type were readily available to anyone who had a need. If you did not know how to fix it, then he would fix it for you. Every year, he would raise a garden full of gloriously delicious vegetables free to all. Curtis had a kindness that was contagious, and a spirit that will never die but lives on in everyone he touched. Even as his body grew old, his mind and his spirit remained youthful. A part of the legacy he leaves is one of selflessness, eternal optimism and endless hope.

Curtis will still be watching over his wife Ruth of 58 years, his son Troy, and his daughter-in-law, Angela Lee Liggins. He will also be watching over his grandson, Philip Liggins and his granddaughter, Taryn Liggins, both he loved immeasurably. He will be watching over his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Arkansas, Missouri and Arizona as well as those here in Virginia. Also to cherish his memory, special friends and family, Willie and Jerry Jenkins; Bryan and Sissy Ball; Daisy and Fan Williams; Eugene Jordan; Ed Bailey Sr.; Ed Bailey Jr; Butch Bland; and Merle Owens (neighborhood life long friend)
