On Monday, April 27, 2020, Clarence Melvin Wright entered into eternal rest at Spotsylvania Regional Hospital. Melvin, as he was affectionately known, was born to the late Burton Wright and Doris Reynolds Holmes of Bowling Green on April 30, 1950. Melvin attended school in Caroline County before beginning his lifelong career at Hoover Wood Treated Products. He retired from there after 35 years of service. Melvin joined Ebenezer Baptist Church of Chilesburg at an early age. Following his marriage to Vanessa on June 23, 2001, he transferred his membership to Mt. Tabor Baptist Church of Milford. Melvin’s commitment to his church was demonstrated in his service on the usher board, performing grounds keeping, and filling in various roles throughout the church. His true joy came from his service on the culinary ministry. Melvin’s smiling face and helping hands were present at every event, whether formal or informal, at the church. With an attitude of doing exactly what he wanted to do, the way he wanted to do it, and when he wanted to do it, Melvin was thought of as a jack of all trades or “MacGyver” in the community. There was no task too big or too small for his attention. From running errands for others to providing transportation for those needing it, Melvin was known for his infectious laugh, caring heart, and love for people. Melvin was a dedicated father and Darryl and Sherry brought him great joy. His grandchildren were his heart, the apples of his eye, and he loved them with every breath. Anyone who talked to Melvin knew of his whole-hearted love for his family. Left to cherish loving memories of Melvin are his loving and devoted wife of almost 19 years, Vanessa C. Wright of Bowling Green; children, Darryl M. Wright (Yolanda) of Fredericksburg and Sherry A. Wright (John) of Ruther Glen; step-children, Rosalin N. Carter (Adam) of Milford and Devron G. Carter of Oahu, Hawaii; mother, Doris R. Holmes of Bowling Green; brother, Walter Wright of Fredericksburg; sister, Hazel Burrell of Fredericksburg; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Johnson; twelve adored grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one aunt, Ms. Isabel Wright; devoted cousins, Dollie Steele, John Hayes, Doris Woolfolk, and Freddie Boone; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, his Mt. Tabor Baptist Church family, and many devoted friends.
