The Obituary

Booker Tolliver Ross known to many as Brother Ross, Booker T, or Mr. Ross, was born and raised in the Fredericksburg /Spotsylvania County area of Virginia. Brother Ross entered this life on November 6, 1917 to the late Reverend Thomas and Mary Ella Ross. He peacefully completed his journey on January 7, 2014 at the Hughes Home Fredericksburg. He was the last of eleven children born to that union.

He attended and was educated at the Mayfield High School in Fredericksburg, VA.

Early in his life, Mr. Ross joined and remained a faithful member of Mount Hope Baptist Church until his transition to his heavenly home. There he served as a devoted trustee, Superintendent of the Sunday School, sang with the male chorus and senior choir. Brother Ross was also the historian for the Mount Hope Cemetery and served on the Pastor Selection Committee when Mount Hope was without a Shepherd, and was always ready to lend a hand to assist in repairs around the church when able. He even played the piano from time to time at the church.

In 1942, Brother Ross entered the United States Army where he served faithfully and honorably until his discharge in November 1945. During his tour, he traveled to Africa before spending time in Italy with the 5th Army.

Brother Ross was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 10546. A lifetime member of the NAACP and was recognized as a pioneer for freedom. He served as a trustee for the Spotsylvania Sunday School Union for more than 15 years.

Brother Ross was employed for 24 years at the FMC plant in Fredericksburg. Following that job, he worked for 21 years and retired from the Naval Weapons Laboratory in Dahlgren, VA.

He leaves to cherish his memories three cousins; Virginia Bugg of Philadelphia Pa, Anita Perkins of NY, and Doris Barrett of Spotsylvania, VA., his assistant and committed friend Barry D. Robinson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
