Blanche Elizabeth Colbert

Blanche Elizabeth Colbert made her transition on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. She was born August 25, 1916 to the late Lewis and Jannie Green. She was the first of five children: Stephen, Frances and Lucille preceded her in death. Blanche confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. Upon moving to Woodford from Baylor's Town (now A. P. Hill), she joined Zion Grove Baptist Church. She was an active participant in many church auxiliaries; more than fifty years. She attended Sunday school and church services regularly until she moved to live with her daughter because of her failing health. Blanche was married to the late Francis Colbert on March 13, 1943. She was the mother of three children: James, Charles (both preceded her in death) and June. She loved her family, her home and her church family. Sewing and crocheting were two of her favorite pastimes. She especially enjoyed crocheting with the seniors on Senior Activity Days at the Caroline County Community Center in Bowling Green, Virginia. She gave many of her Afghans and hats to friends and relatives. Another favorite pastime was spending time with her special friend and companion, the late Charles L. Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, June Smith; one devoted son-in-law, J. Douglas Smith; one daughter-in-law; Margie Green; one brother, Herbert Green; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Green and Ada Green; three grandsons, Justin Smith, James Green, Jr., and Maurice Green; one great-granddaughter; a devoted cousin, Annie Flood; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
