Beverly Louise Lewis (Crenshaw) was born July 12, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio, the fifth child of Henry and Doris Crenshaw (Stark). She was one out of 10 children. Beverly was baptized at a young age at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, where she later served on the Ushers Board. Beverly attended and graduated from East Technical High School in Cleveland in 1964.
Beverly produced one child in 1967, Carla Allen (Woodard). She moved to Dumfries, VA where she married and maintained her household as a loving housewife. In 1985, Beverly was invited in by her much-loved friend, the late Mae Purcell to attend services at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Triangle, VA. As a result, from that initial visit, Beverly became a heartily devoted church member. During her 30 year membership at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Beverly Lewis served faithfully as a member of the Missionary Ministry, Nurses Ministry, and the Heavenly Lights Choir.
Beverly later relocated to Woodbridge, VA where she offered her labor as a realtor, an employee of Prince William County Schools, and in a local supermarket. Due to the cherished bond Beverly shared with her daughter, she merited an active and endearing role in her two grandchildren's lives from birth - Bianca Woodard and Nicholas Waddell.
Beverly later moved to Stafford, VA in 1992. Motivated by her love of others and her commitment to serve, she began her 22-year career caring for the people of Central Virginia as a Certified Nursing Assistant and home health aide. . Beverly met Verne Leewellyn "Lee" Lewis and they married joyfully in 2003. Soon after their union, she relocated to Locust Grove, VA and established a home with her husband. She began her own small business as an Avon Representative in 2007. Since then, Beverly earned her position in the Avon President's Club, and was recognized as 1 out of 3 top-selling Avon Representatives in the district for 6 consecutive years. Beverly achieved numerous top sales leaders' awards as well with Avon.
Beverly welcomed her great-grandson Malachi Ademola to the world on July 11th in 2010; she often shared her appreciation of his birthdate with others by affectionately stating, "He couldn't wait just one more day to be born, so we could have the same birthdate".
Beverly never left her house without at least one cup of coffee in the morning and wearing a pair of earrings. Over the years, Beverly spent her free time with her grandchildren, adding to her shoe and jewelry collection, and enjoying her retirement by working in her garden, visiting a few bingo halls, going to yard sales, watching football games with Pepsi, and in the company of an array of very dear friends.
Beverly was diagnosed with stomach cancer in March 2014. Without ever losing faith in her Lord, she endured two surgeries, 6 months of chemotherapy, and a brief hospitalization. Beverly then fell ill, and entered Carriage Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center where she was constantly surrounded, telephoned, and visited by her family and friends. Her last weeks of life were spent in the 24/7 company of her immediate family. She was a strong cancer fighter and never lost hope, her good spirit, or her warming smile. Beverly planned to be home by the end of March, and would frequently state, "I will be walking out of here and going home come March", and she is now home indeed. The Lord spoke and called Beverly Lewis to come to His home March 7, 2015 at 9:21pm; she left her adoring daughter's hands peacefully and entered into the Lord's eternal loving arms.
Beverly was preceded in death by her mother and father Doris and Henry Crenshaw; two Sisters Delores Agbortoko and Pamela Ailara. She is survived by her husband, Lee Lewis; daughter, Carla Woodard; grandchildren, Bianca Woodard (Ayotade), Nicholas Waddell; and great-grandson, Malachi Ademola. Beverly is survived by her sisters and brothers, Patricia Crenshaw, Ronald Crenshaw (Penelope), Joyce Reynolds (Forrest), Sharon Goosfandi, Gregory Culpepper, Charlene Douglas, and Eric Crenshaw (Regina). Beverly is survived by over 15 nieces and nephews and over 20 great nieces and nephews; and a host of great-grand nieces and nephews.
