On Monday, December 9, 2002 at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, God in His own way, and for His own purpose, called His child Bessie Mae Lewis from her labor to rest. She was born on February 6, 1954 to Henry Lee and Thelma Pearl Shepherd in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Jerusalem Baptist Church, where she remained a member until God called her to rest.
She attended the Public Schools in Caroline County and graduated from Bowling Green Senior High School in 1972. She furthered her education at Germanna Community College in Madison, Virginia.
Bessie was United in Holy Matrimony to Boston Lewis of Alexandria, Virginia and they were blessed with one daughter, Sheree Matisse Lewis.
Bessie was employed at Quantico Marine Base in Quantico, Virginia and later at Fort A. P. Hill in Bowling Green, Virginia.
Bessie's love of God and strong family values she had will forever live on in her family. Her many sacrifices will never be forgotten. She leaves a vacant space in our hearts that can never be filled. She will be greatly missed.
Loving memories will be forever cherished by her parents, Henry Lee and Thelma Pearl Shepherd of Sparta, Virginia; one daughter Sheree Matisse Lewis of Sparta, Virginia; three brothers, Henry Lee, Jr., Anthony and Contee Shepherd all of Bowling Green, Virginia; three sisters, Cynthia Cypress and Anita Godfrey both of Woodbridge, Virginia; and Devioau Shepherd of Sparta, Virginia; one brother-in-law, Robert Cypress of Woodbridge, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Felicia Shepherd of Bowling Green, Virginia and Tiajuana Shepherd of Fort Washington, Maryland; two uncles, Floyd and Larney Shepherd of Bowling Green, Virginia; two aunts, Vernice Shepherd of Bowling Green, Virginia and Delaney Randolph of Thornburg, Virginia. Bessie also leaves behind a very dear friend, James Otis Johnson of Sparta, Virginia, 17 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, other relative and friends.
WE THANK GOD FOR BLESSING OUR FAMILY WITH SOMEONE AS DEAR AS YOU.
