Bernard Washington Howard, Sr. affectionately know as “Mike” was born October 21, 1926 in Caroline Co., son of the late James and Mary Howard. He departed this life at 6:50 a.m. on Thursday April 7, 2005 at his residence, he had requested to be at home when he passed away, and that request was honored by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother James R. Howard.
At an early age he accepted Christ and joined Bethlehem Baptist Church, Spotsylvania. On January 5, 1957, he was joined in holy matrimony to the former Arlene Gaines of Hustle, VA. From this union four children were born. Bernard attended Caroline County School System. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired after 38 years from S.J. Bell Construction Co., in Alexandria. He was presently employed by Caroline County, as a Waste Recycling Center Attendant, at the Port Royal site. He was a loving man who wore a smile all the time that was unforgettable.
